The video security industry is under going a major technology shift which is
revolutionizing the quality, performance and capabilities of video surveillance
networks. These new systems are All-Digital from camera to archive and are
connected over standard Ethernet networks. Control, processing and
archiving functions are performed on advanced computer platforms. With IP
based camera technology maturing, the migration from the DVR (Digital Video
Recorder) to the NVR (Network Video Recorder) will lead the final phase of
this All-Digital revolution. The NVR can be utilized in the same traditional
surveillance applications but with improved video system performance.
These applications can be tiered by the number of cameras or resolution
bandwidth requirements. Low end digital video security applications (V1000
Series NVR) might include such locations as residences, convenience
stores, construction sites, ATMs and entrances to gated communities.
Mid-range digital video surveillance applications(V2000 Series NVR) might
include parking lots, nursing homes, free standing retailoutlets, production
line monitoring, small strip malls and other applications with relatively low
camera counts but high resolution requirements. High-end surveillance
applications (V 3 000 Series NVR)are driven by a need to support a large
number of cameras. These might include casinos, marinas or ports, prisons,
municipalities, medical facilities and airports.
